What's on at the cinema? - II

If you feel like watching something, here you have some suggestions.
HIDDEN POTENTIAL

The short film “Hidden Potential” shows us the struggles people with learning difficulties face when growing up, representing in the film by dyslexia. This fight is shown through the traumatic experience lived in primary school by a famous dyslexic artist. His classmates together with his teacher, believed that he was a lazy or stupid boy. Fortunately, he found a teacher who saw in him something that they couldn´t. Using specific methodologies and with a lot of hard work he could show his high potential, in his case, through pictures. It was then that his teacher realised she had failed to understand him and became increasingly embarrassed. This is a sad reality, nowadays the education system still doesn´t have tools to help this kind of children. Don´t you agree?

HIDDEN POTENTIAL

The dyslexia problem. A person who has dyslexia is interviewed by a journalist for a magazine article. He told him how a teacher helped him with his problem. Anthony, the boy’s name, had to read a book for school but, he couldn’t do it and he couldn’t understand the story well. After that, his teacher called to a speech therapist, so that she tried to help the boy will get to understand the book. The student practised a lot with this new teacher. The short teaches us that the dyslexia is a problem but, if you work a lot on it, you will have a standard life. I recommend the short because this issue is real and many people suffer from it.

TYLER

Tyler is a largely awarded short that tells us an unusual story from an uncommon point of view. Look at the scenery: two step-brothers, a sunny day, a nice meal, some friendly chatting, everything seems to be perfect... and then, “the bomb”…, the surprise of the older one that cannot consider what he has just heard. Finally, he takes in his brother’s maturity and accepts his feelings and all returns to a quiet and nice conversation. Hence, this short is not only a gentle and kind tale, but a story that allows us to make us understand better LGTB people´s feelings about the awakening of their sexual identity.

INVISIBLE

Arthur Cauty’s short documentary Invisible is a portrait of Bristol’s homeless people. In it some of them talk about their past and current life, about the moment which changed their lives, about their dreams and aspirations and about anything else they wanted to speak about. They say they don’t live, they just survive and are excluded from society, without family any support or help, so they feel vulnerable all the time. This documentary gives them a voice, although we often pretend that they are invisible. In fact, hardly anyone doesn’t feel safe with their presence although most homeless aren’t bad people. This touching short makes me think that most of them would like the chance to start over.

IS THIS FREE?

People usually make questions that are obvious and respond standard answers without thinking. This happens because when we ask a standard question, we believe that we know the answer. For this reason, when someone gives us another answer we have to take a second to think what to say. A situation in that line occurs if you ask a seat is free and that person starts to ask you different questions which confuse you. Then, you start to answer and maybe, because you are surprised, you don´t know how to react. That person has done it to prove that people sometime don´t think about their answers. In summary, everybody at least once in our lives have made a question that is unnecessary because the answer is obvious. Why are we still doing it?

REWRITE

Could we change the future? Can we speak with people from there? Michael is a young person that will have the answer to these questions in his hands. He and Charlie have been ordered to steal an object, but it is the origin of the problems for him. He will see that this artefact is more than an object, so he will have to decide what to do with it. What should be more important: the security of his loved ones or an artefact that could be change it?

THE CLUB

The short film is about a book club there is a chief, who is angry with two members of his club. In the first scene, two boys appear (whose names are Terry and Leon) smoking outside a store. They are late for the lesson in the club. The chief catches them outside, and immediately orders them to go inside. The chief, Frank, is angry because they (the chief and others) are waiting for the two smokers. The boss wants to say something to Terry and Leon: he’s fed up and if they are not capable to come in time, they will be replaced. Secondly, he is cross because he hears that someone doesn’t want the command. Frank tells them that if someone thinks that is better than him: even though, that person will be worse than him. In addition, he tells them that without him they are lost. Finally, the members of the Club have two options: they either change their boss for another, or they all keep their thoughts to themselves. This Club is about reading, but also about leaders and rules to follow.

THE EXCHANGE

It is a comic short  that deals with a dispute between two groups of people who speak different languages. The first group are kidnappers, who have a hostage, the second come from far away to give them money in exchange for a package, The hostage is responsible for translating the two languages, English and Russian, but when the hostage begins to make the translations, he makes his interpretations and ends up creating confusion and anger between the two groups. It is a short that talks about communication problems between different countries and their languages.
