SELF-PORTRAITS
MEET ANTONIO
In the early sixties, when I was born in Madrid, tradition required that my name should be chosen according to my father’s name, which was Antonio. Forty years later, fortunately, for my middle son, this custom had been completely forgotten.
Not only traditions have changed throughout all my lifetime, but also my own appearance. So, I currently strike people as less black-haired, in addition to being a bit "bigger". Nevertheless, I hope to give the impression of being as young as I really feel.
On the contrary, my character has not changed a lot. I usually come across as being fairly steady, as well as sensible enough. However, I prefer to consider myself quite thorough and organized, which sometimes gets me to be rather demanding with my own children. Deep down, I think I have really developed these features to survive to my shy and slightly absent-minded nature.
To wrap up, although I sometimes regret being a little bit grumpy, I find myself to be good-tempered and a home-loving person, who tends to prefer watching a movie together with his family rather than having a drink with friends.
MEET LAURA
My name is Laura; I was born on 15th April 1996 in the bosom of a little family. At
present, I’m studying Mathematics at university as well as English at the official
language school.
I’m quite shy and a little bit serious, which makes me seem an unsociable
person, although I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
My friends say that I’m sometimes too straightforward and, consequently,
people not only take offence because of my words, but also get angry.
However, I consider myself very fair-minded.
Despite my sweaty hands, which can be seen as a symptom of nervousness,
I’m actually very calm, which is shown by my ability to keep my temper in all
situations.
I have no brothers or sisters and both my parents work all day, therefore, I
spend a lot of time alone, which is an advantage right now due to all the long
hours I have to pass studying since I’m conscientious and thorough.
My mum says I’m very active and determined because I always have something
to do such as doing exercise, meeting someone or finishing some problems of
maths.
To my mind, I’m not only a diligent student but also a steady girl.
MEET CARMEN
To my mind, it is easier to describe another person than to write about yourself. Although it is a difficult task I´ll try to make it as honestly as I can.The most relevant aspect of my personality is my good sense of humour, as you can see in the picture above. Despite showing a little bit of a clown sometimes, I would describe myself as someone who is honest and firm. I am not only talkative and friendly, but also reliable and resourceful.Another point to highlight about me is my responsible character. I have been working since I was a teenager, b
ecause I dropped out of school, although I was a brilliant student. This fact has made me stronger, steady and hardworking person. Many years later, in my early thirties, I finished my university studies with excellent qualifications.Finally, I strongly feel that family is the first priority in my life, because I have assumed the responsibility of taking care of them since my father died. Many times I wonder what my father would think about my behavior, and I usually think he would be very proud of me.
MEET ROSA
My name is Rosa Mozun. I am from Arnedo, La Rioja, but I have lived in Valladolid since I came to study Computer Engineer at University when I was 18.
I am a bit shy at first, yet once you get to know me, I am not only easy-going, but also funny. Many people consider me to be a bit standoffish due to my shyness. However, I am not a withdrawn person, I really like going out as well as socializing with friends.
It is my belief that, all of us need to spend time doing something we love every day. Therefore, I find time to read, watch some TV series or movies, and most of all listen to music. I thoroughly enjoy discovering new artists and music styles.
I try not only to treat others as I would like to be treated, but I also consider how they would like to be treated. . Finally, I agree with George Carlin's celebrated words, which I quote: “So I say, “Live and let live.” That’s my motto. “Live and let live.”
MEET PALOMA
I'm currently one of the most employed, legally unemployed, person in the world. As I'm really zealous I'm always looking for new things to do, which does not always mean earning money.
In spite of having worked in the IT world for the last 7 years, my curiosity has led me to jobs like ski/snow repairer, advertising zeppelin pilot, gardener, shop assistant among others. I love learning and discovering new personal skills. You should never say that you can't do anything only that you haven't learnt how to do it yet, you just need to be patient and hardworking. I'm keen on anything creative from painting to leather goods.
One of my biggest prides is my family, which is really large and varied. It has made me an understanding person, always ready to help and put in somebody else’s shoes. I'm not a greedy person neither for power nor for money. Believe me, when you grow up in a house with twelve people, little money and just one bathroom you learn to appreciate other things but the material ones.
MEET SOFíA
Hello, my name is Sofia. Although I am from Valencia, nowadays I am living in Laguna de Duero. I have two sisters, one older and another one younger than me.
People who know me well say that I am calm, but also a dynamic person, giving good vibes, but sometimes I could be excessively sarcastic, which hurts them. In spite of being quite friendly, I am rather stubborn, usually making my partner and people close to me feel bewildered.
Even though I am very home-loving, I like travelling and visiting new countries and cities. Although I am afraid of flying I do not mind making thousands of miles travelling by car, but also by train. In my opinion, it is a better option than flying. Furthermore, one thing that I love is watching sunrises and sunsets, either on the beach or in the mountains.
In conclusion, I try to be not only gentle, but also helpful to my family and friends because it is what I receive from them. Besides I do realize the calmness I project could come from having lived most of my life by the sea.
